Thursday, December 30th, 2004

と思ってるけど、痰がみどり色・・・ ^^;

Hero?

どこかから手裏剣が飛んで来ちゃいそう、ウィルの首を狙って^^;

My family in Jakarta is safe. Relatives in Medan and elsewhere too.
Thank God.

But,

Already 55,000 people dead! And still counting…
A terrible tragedy that is going to continue for a while with the disease and the aftermath.

Blogging about the cold in Tokyo suddenly seems just so rude and thoughtless…

My condolences for the victims of this natural disaster.
The power of nature. The fragility of life.
To the rest of us, let’s cherish what we have.

Anyway, it was DAMN GOOD!!!
We ate like there was no tomorrow…

Yeah.

It was Michiko who invited me and Aya-chan to join hubby Shumon’s good friends for dinner.
Have you ever laughed for like 5 hours non-stop?
Shumon’s good friends Chris & Keiji are the funniest people ever!
I was barely recovering from a joke when the next one came, and the next, and the next…
Hilarious group of highly energetic people!!!

They eat a lot.

Next time we’re gonna do CHANKO NABE!

The BEST WAY to get a PSP!

Friday, December 17th, 2004

Just some toasts and a cup of tea for my supper…
I was hungry.

Hey wait a minute. What’s that? In the background???
Is that… omygosh… a PSP Box?!?
PSP!!! For REAL???

Yep.
*Heh-heh* ^^p

PSP. *THE* PLAYSTATION PORTABLE from SONY!!!
200,000 units SOLD OUT by 10:30AM on the launch day.
Long lines of more than 1000 people in front of the stores!
Some waiting from the night before!!!

And I got one.
I GOT ONE!!! WOOHOO!!!

How?

It just fell on my lap.

. . .

Yup. The PSP pretty much just Fell On My Lap!
Seriously, I didn’t even go to the store.
Santa Claus brought it to me.

…santa??!

Well, this year my Santa happens to live in Kawasaki Area. Somehow managed to buy more than one unit of PSP from a Yodobashi Camera store there. And was going to sell it to Yoshi who sits next to me at the office.

I mean… It was really just. sitting. pretty. on the desk beside me!

And Yoshi wasn’t around…
(No, of course I wouldn’t just steal it from him, you punk!)

BUT! After emailing Yoshi on his keitai to ask about it, he told me that he had somehow Miraculously FOUND - and immediately bought - ANOTHER PSP at a toy store somewhere on his way to the hospital for medical check-up that day.

O.o
WHA-?!

So, the PSP found another owner.
Me.

Woohoo!!

Isn’t that JUST THE LUCKIEST STORY you’ve Ever Heard??
I mean, some people were Camping ALL NIGHT in front of the stores in Shinjuku in the Cold Winter Night of Tokyo…
And the PSP just came to me. Delivered to me at my office.
Aren’t you jealous? I would be! ^^p
Don’t you hate me now?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Well, bye for now… seriously gotta go…
My toasts are getting cold.
And of course… Metal Gear Acid, Ridge Racers, Armored Core… are all waiting for me. ^^p

Jya!

WillBlog RENEWAL!!!

Wednesday, December 15th, 2004

Hi all! This is WILL in Tokyo, JAPAN! Livin’ da LIFE! Doin’ COOL Shit! And shamelessly bloggin’ it! ^^

Going crazy…

INTRODUCTION

Blog. BLOG! Well, the point is to share, isn’t it? ^^

Share! Sharing my experiences, my thoughts and my opinions about STUFF.
Sharing them with you, my friends and family. Online. Blah-blah. That’s what my blog is all about. I think. ^^

So here it is…

1. I came up with a new energetic slogan too:
“Life is short… Work Smart! Play Hard! And Eat DAMN GOOD FOOD!”
(Kinda similar to many other slogans, but it’s DIFFERENT! dammit! ^^p)
Yup. The FOOD part is a Really Big Part of my blog.

My good friend Roberto pointed that out to me today…

I asked him, for my year-end evalution type thing:
What are the 2 things that pop up in your mind when you think about me?
He said something like “well, you’re pretty active. and food.”

And FOOD?

(All those years and countries we’ve known each other, and that’s it? ^^p)
Well… anyway, FOOD! Not just any kind of food, DAMN GOOD FOOD!
Without which, I will be quite depressed… ^^
Yeah, I’m a big Food kinda guy. heh-heh.

GLUTTONY.

So this blog is also about the Food in my daily life.
Who’d be interested in reading about food in my life??? Well, my mom. For one. ^^p
Whatever. I’ll try some new and funky stuff too, and write it here. OK?

2. Renewed my blog categories!
Now they are: “Work Smart!” and “Play Hard!” and “Eat DAMN GOOD FOOD!”
Yeah. All derived from the slogan. Cool, eh?

What’s “Play Hard?”
Dunno…
I’m usually pretty serious and boring.
(”I’m an Engineer!” is my standard excuse…)

BORING? Hmm…

BUT! I believe in the amazing power of Peer Pressure.
So I always try to surround myself with people who are “Interesting” and “Play Hard” and then let them drag me along.
Yup. Great Strategy, isn’t it? ^^
If I can’t control Peer Pressure, I can at least control the ‘type’ of Peer Pressure I get, right?

3. Linking to other blogs.
The japan bloggers webring! Seems like something my blog would belong to. Hmm…

I mean, afterall, I’m FINALLY here in my Dream Destination of TOKYO, JAPAN!
AND, unlike most other gaijins in Tokyo, I am lucky to NOT have to teach English to bored and uninterested students.
^^p
(They get more money though… ^^;)

Instead, I am doing Research and Development on THE HOTTEST THING in Japan: Mobile Tech!!
Already been here for 3 years, and working for startup companies, one went Down, one went Up.

*phew*

A lot of ups and downs, but always right at the CUTTING EDGE OF TECHNOLOGY! ^^
And learning a hell lot of stuff everyday!
PLUS, all the Cultural Contradictions of JAPAN…

Well, anyway, it’s a long FIRST POST after the renewal!
I promise to write more interesting stuff!
Jya!

Club SEGA and FeliCa-phone

Friday, December 10th, 2004

Had a meeting today at Ohsaki Gate City. Whoa… Edy is pretty much everywhere!

Came half an hour early so I checked out the Club SEGA there and it’s Edy only! Which means that to play the games, you have to use the Edy Card or Edy phone, or buy the Club SEGA membership card. Can’t even use real coins anymore… Luckily my new phone *heh heh* already is Edy-enabled… so I tried one of the Gundam games there.

Here are some photos of the Edy-enabled arcade game machines…

My new phone - SH901iC

Thursday, December 9th, 2004

I got a new phone last week! My old one died after I spilled oolong cha on it accidentally. Ouch!

Anyway I got the top of the line — SH901iC, a DoCoMo FOMA phone by Sharp! It’s a really fun phone coz it includes so much unnecessary gimmicky stuff that I love. Here’s a review on Keitai Watch.

What I do with it:

  • I use it to pay for my daily shopping at the AMPM combini. No more coins! And I get mileage too!
  • I use it as my audio player on the train ride to and from work
  • I can record TV shows and watch it on the train
  • It’s a really portable and decent digital camera with an auto-focus function that really works!
  • I can store and View docs in pdf, word, excel, etc
  • It’s my scheduler and daily alarm
  • Play games…

Also went to Akihabara to get a bunch of accessories for the phone! So here’s everything:

  • A new SH901iC from the neighborhood shop we always buy from JPY 26,000
  • 512MB miniSD card large enough to store about a 100+ audio and video files JPY 8,800
  • Memory card adaptor for my laptop to quickly transfer files between my laptop and my phone JPY 2,480
  • An AV Cable to connect my phone to my TV for recording or playback JPY 714
  • A USB charger for FOMA phones JPY 714
  • An adaptor for earphones to be used on the phone JPY 1050
  • A pair of earphones from Sony that I already own…

My audio/video player. Right now playing a music video.

Connected to the TV for input/output.

Charging by USB on my laptop…

Will blog more on the stuff I do with my new phone! :)
